In order to promote mutual exchange and communication between teenagers from international sister cities and Shanghai, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission (SHMEC) has held the annual Shanghai International Sister Cities Youth Camp since 2009 and invited high school students in Shanghai’s international sister cities. 21 international sister cities (provinces, states and counties) have sent students and teachers to participate including Queensland (Australia), Dunedin (New Zealand), Quebec (Canada), Rhone-Alpes (France), Marseille(France), Hamburg (Germany), Haifa (Israel), Jalisco (Mexico), St. Petersburg (Russia), Rotterdam (the Netherlands), Liverpool (U.K.), Cork (Ireland), Basel (Switzerland), Nagasaki (Japan), Jeju (Korea), Busan (Korea), Kwazulu-Natal (South Africa), Valparaiso (Chile), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Espoo (Finland) and Chicago (USA).
During youth camp,foreign sister cities’ teachers and students study Chinese, experience the Chinese culture and go sightseeing together with the teachers and students of Shanghai and other countries. They cooperate through joint efforts, surpass the barriers of nationalities and languages, foster their open and tolerate attitude and global and international vision while enhancing mutual understanding, and have a good time in the wonderful and unforgettable camp.
