At the beginning of the foundation of Shanghai Education Association for International Exchange (SEAIE), education visiting was the main content of the non-governmental education exchange. With the continuous external opening of education, the contents and aims of education visiting are expanding continuously. Through the short visiting of domestic and abroad education institutes, organizations and individuals, and by means of travel, "Journey of Education" is becoming a new cooperative exchange pattern. SEAIE takes in more than 50 organizations of foreign teachers and students, more than 1,000 people in average every year. And with the help of the education department of the Consulate General in Osaka, Japan, the exchange with Japan Ryukoku University has been lasting for 15 years. There have already been 9 groups of the University to visit Shanghai, and once the most amounts reached more than 600 people.   • SEAIE has established wide relationship with the countries around. In 1999, different groups came to China more frequently. And a large number of visiting groups from Europe and America are also coming to China, including the ten delegations leaded by the vice president of the US International Education Staff Administration. There are more school visiting groups aimed at furthering the friendship and getting a deeper understanding, such as the US Boy Scout group, "Little Yage" Chorus from Philippine, the visiting journey of the winning students in the College Students' Speech Contest in Chinese in Japan every spring and so on.   • SEAIE also overtake the job of treating the foreign delegations invited by the National Education Department and other provincials.

  • Taking advantage of the relationship with foreign countries, SEAIE assists the education department to organize all kinds of professional tests and training and acquires very good effects in professional education, long-distant education, the instructions on the students' employment, the socialize of the schools' logistics and English teaching. In 1999 we organized Shanghai Basic Education Delegation to the United States to see about the compulsory education in the US. We also sent the Japanese teachers of Shanghai University and Shanghai Science and Engineering University to study in Japan for two weeks.
