Shanghai International College of Culture is an education organization attached to Shanghai Exchange Association of International Education and offers Chinese and Chinese culture studying to the foreign friends living in Shanghai. It grows out of "Yueyou External Chinese Teaching Centre" founded in 1985. After a few years' development, the College now mainly enrolls the foreign staffs working in Shanghai and their relations and other foreign people who are not learning regular course in universities. The College practices its characteristic teaching in the way of class teaching, individual teaching, holding lectures, visiting, nongovernmental exchange and travelling. It can also promote the folk culture exchange and friendship between China and foreign countries and help the foreign people to understand Chinese culture and the accomplishments Shanghai has achieved through the external opening.

The aim of Shanghai International College of Culture is: Adapting itself to the deepening opening of China, making the most of Shanghai's advantages and intellectual resources, through the flexible forms of teaching, offer different kinds of services to the foreign friends to learn Chinese and Chinese culture and at the same time, works as a supplementary part of regular universities of Shanghai.

Most of the staff are the retired cadre form Shanghai educational system engaged in external affairs. As for the teachers, we mainly employ the teachers who used to be engaged in the foreign students' teaching and was at least vice professor. We also employ the experts in the related fields, scholars and outstanding youth teachers to take part in the teaching activities.

In 2000, the College cooperated with Korean Qinghai Continuation Center to develop the Chinese and Chinese culture education among the Koreans in Shanghai and build the broader teaching net of Chinese and Chinese culture to offer more convenience to the foreign friends who are not suitable to study Chinese and Chinese culture in regular universities. The College cooperated with Shanghai Committee for Aged People and the residents' communities and took fully advantage of the retired personnel of the educational system to attract the foreign retired people to recuperate in Shanghai, learning Chinese and Chinese culture and exchanging with the old people here through the travelling activities.
