Though there are many differences between the east and the west, like culture, ideology, regime and life style, the various kinds of culture and education exchanges promote the communication, understanding and trust between each other. It's not only a good form to make the world know China and Shanghai, but also the starting point of "Bridge of Culture Exchange".

1. Queensland Cup University Students English Speech

In the recent 20 years, the economic and trade relations have been expanded continuously, which is specified in educational area. Aiming to stimulate the friendships and exchanges between the two sister city and state, Queensland Trade and Investment Office--Shanghai proposed to hold Queensland Cup University English Speech Competition for Shanghai students in late of 2000. Approved by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, based on the friendship between the two sister city and state, SEAIE and Queensland Trade and Investment Office--Shanghai co-organized the Queensland Cup University Students English Speech Competition which introduce the exchange between Shanghai and Queensland. The universities exchanged with Queensland participate this competition.

2. The English contests for middle school students

Since 1995, SEAIE and Nacel culture exchange association of the United States have cooperated to hold the Shanghai English Contests for key schools' students. Through the contests we found a large number of talented students in English, aroused the students' interests to learn English and improved the level of English teaching. (The Photo)

2.Bilingual speech contest by Chinese and Japanese

This contest is the traditional item of the culture exchanges of SEAIE. It is held by SEAIE and Kyoto International Studies University of Japan in Shanghai and Kyoto respectively since 1987. In these 13 years, the contest has not only played an active role in promoting the language teaching of the two countries, but has become a bridge of two countries' culture exchange for its large scale and long existing. 3. SEAIE also took advantage of its channel to organize foreign students to study Chinese and Chinese culture in Chins.

The foreign students know China better through their own experiences in China. Shanghai Middle School and America University held the "Shanghai Middle School-Harvard" Summer Camp every summer vacation to offer an opportunity to Shanghai's middle students to learn English and the American people to know Shanghai. 4. AFS Item

SEAIE also cooperates with AFS mainly engaging in the exchange activities between middle school students. Our purpose is to promote the understanding and world peace through the culture exchanges. (The Photo)

5. Experience Chinese Culture

In recent years, with the external opening of Shanghai, there are more and more foreign people to live and work in Shanghai. Many of them have a strong interest in Chinese historical culture and humanity customs. To meet their need, SEAIE held a series of activities of "Chinese and Chinese Culture". The activities satisfied the need of foreign people in Shanghai of knowing Shanghai, knowing China and offered them an opportunity to experience the Chinese culture with 5000 years after work. According to the guideline of "Promote Friendship, Communicate with Each Other", SEAIE gave out its own strength to promote the communication between Shanghai and the world, worked out its contribution to Shanghai's construction and development.
